Starting your journey to employment can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure who’s there to help you along the way. If you’ve been referred to a Workforce Australia provider, you might be wondering exactly what they do and how they can support you.
Employment Services providers contracted to deliver Workforce Australia services, like WISE, are there to support you at every stage of your path to work. This includes training and upskilling, getting you work-ready with help such as resume assistance and workwear, connecting you with job opportunities, and helping you overcome any other barriers standing in your way.
The support doesn’t stop once you land a role. Your provider continues to help you after you start work, including assistance with any required training or certifications, and expenses like personal protective equipment (PPE).
What is a Workforce Australia provider?
Workforce Australia is the Australian Government’s national employment service. It helps Australians become job-ready and connects them with suitable, secure employment.
A Workforce Australia provider is an Employment Services provider contracted to deliver this program to people in a particular area or region.
Some providers, like WISE, are also specialist providers for specific groups, including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and ex-offenders.
Your first appointment
Your first appointment will be a relaxed, face-to-face conversation with your assigned Employment Partner. Together, you’ll talk through your goals for work and any previous employment experience you have.
Your Employment Partner will take time to understand:
- Your skills and experience
- Any barriers you may be facing in finding work
- Your short term and long-term gaols
- How they can help you overcome those barriers
At the end of your appointment, you’ll work together to explore pathways that suit your individual needs and circumstances . This plan outlines your employment goals and how your provider will work alongside you to connect you with suitable job opportunities.
Support available through your provider
The main focus of the Workforce Australia program is helping you find suitable, sustainable employment. To get you there, your provider takes a holistic approach, offering a range of supports tailored to your needs.
Here are some of the ways your provider can help.
Resume and cover letter support
Get help creating or updating your resume and cover letter so you can present your skills and experience in the best possible light.
Interview preparation
Build your confidence with practice and guidance, so you feel ready to make a strong impression on the day.
Job matching
Your provider works to connect you with job opportunities that suit your skills, experience, and goals.
Training opportunities
Access training and upskilling that can boost your qualifications and open up new career pathways.
Work-related support and referrals
Receive practical support, such as workwear or equipment, along with referrals to other services that can help you succeed.
Confidence and motivation support
Find encouragement and guidance to help you stay positive and motivated throughout your journey. Some providers, like WISE, offer specialised mental health support programs or specialist counselling services.
How often will I meet with my provider?
– Appointments are scheduled based on your individual circumstances, either face-to-face or over the phone at least once in every 28 day period. This can change depending on your individual circumstances.
After your first appointment, you can discuss with your Employment Partner how often you’ll meet and what type of appointments work best for you.
What if my circumstances change?
Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes personal situations make it difficult or impossible to attend your appointments or meet the obligations you’ve arranged with your provider.
Common examples include:
- Health changes
- Caring responsibilities
- Starting work
- Moving location
If your circumstances change, it’s important to get in touch with your provider as soon as possible. Let them know how it might affect your commitments, so they can work quickly to find a solution and make sure it doesn’t impact your income payments.
Building a partnership with your provider
Your provider is there to work alongside you, support your goals, and help you overcome the barriers you may face on your employment journey. There is a team that will work together to assist you in reaching your goals.
From your very first appointment, you and your provider build a collaborative partnership. This means your journey and your outcomes stay focused on what matters most to you.
